Denim Trends and How To Wear Them
I have always been a sucker for a great pair of jeans. However, the last couple of years have brought in some styles that haven’t excited me as much. So, this year, I was keen to see which styles dominated the denim trends, and I’m happy to say that two of my very favourite pairs are back in vogue. But between you and me, these styles never left my closet. I’ll let you know why, so keep reading.
The styles that are considered to be in are:

- Pencil jeans
- Cuffed Hem
- Flared/Bootcut Flare
- Wide Leg
- Barrell Leg
- Long Shorts.
The Pencil Jean Is the Denim Trend That Suits Every Body Shape
The most modern silhouette in this lineup of denim trends is the pencil pair of jeans. Slim is back in. For those of us who cried a little when skinny jeans were burned at the stake, this style provides a little bit of a throwback to the slimmer style.

This is one of my favorite styles, as it complements all body types and remains stylish every season. Pair them with a white top and blazer for a classic look, or consider trying them with a pleated/corset top to define the waist and create softness through a straighter shape like I have here.
Why the Bootcut Is One of My Favourite Returning Denim Trends
I absolutely adore the return of the balancing bootcut, as I like to call it. This means that all body shapes can wear this style. Here, I’ve paired it with a loose leopard print sequin top. Tuck it in the front, but leave it loose around the side and back for a stylish look. Plus, thanks to the flare at the hem, it pairs beautifully with a slimmer boot that tucks away nicely under the flare. They also look great with a pair of ballet flats for everyday wear.

The Cuffed Hem is a Denim Trend Worth Trying
The cuffed-hem pair of jeans features a wide cuff at approximately the top of your shoes or the ankles. The leg is wide, so it’s perfect for those who love a looser leg. The way to make these work for all shapes is – if you have smaller shoulders, look for a top that widens your frame. On the opposite side, if you have wide shoulders, look for a top that won’t widen you through the shoulder area like the top in the pic.
They look great either for everyday wear or when styled with a slimmer-fitting top for a night out. I love them with this sequin top and black heels.

Wide Leg Jeans Are Still One of the Biggest Denim Trends
This style remains popular this year, though the slim straight is edging in on the wide leg’s territory. I prefer the wide-leg style that is fitted through the waist and hips and then flares out over the legs. To me, this gives your body a bit more shape. The longer style of the top then sits beautifully over the top and doesn’t add any additional width, just some curve through the waist, which, if you’re straighter like me, you’ll love. I really enjoy wearing this style with slingback flats, as it gives the outfit polish.

The Barrel Leg Is the Most Divisive Denim Trend Right Now
This new style is a little divisive. They are fitted through the waist, but the flare width throughout the barrel leg depends on the jeans’ brand. This style tapers in through the ankle. My favourite style comes from Rag & Bone because it fits well through the hips and waist. It looks great with a fitted top and stylish ankle boots. The only thing you might consider is that the wider the barrel, the more unbalanced the look could get.
