Essential Wardrobe Items Everyone Needs
Ten Essential Wardrobe Items You Really Do Need!
Ten essential wardrobe items every woman needs in her closet.
However, what I do suggest is that you purchase good quality pieces so that they stand the test of time. The beauty of purchasing good quality pieces is that they won’t wear out after one season. An awesome time to purchase these pieces is during sale time.
See why I have chosen these styles to be part of my ten essential wardrobe items.
The first item on my list is a classic black jacket. The style I have chosen is shaped through the middle to create a curvier waistline on those who need it and highlight a curvy waist on those who don’t. The 2 buttons as the front do up underneath the bust, which is flattering especially to the apple body shape.
The next item is a black and white striped tee. What makes this top flattering is the cut. The curved hem is flattering, but because it has a little bit of movement through the body it will show off your figure without looking baggy. Plus the slightly wider stripes – about an inch wide, makes the stripe perfect for all. It works well with skirts, pants and jeans. ALC Tee
The classic white silk shirt is number 3 on my list of ten essential wardrobe items. This style has been adopted from a man shirt style but has been made with a feminine twist, so it won’t be too baggy or bulky. Because its’ silk the fabric falls beautifully and won’t stick out. It suits jeans, pants and skirts – depending on which look you are going for. Vince Stretch Silk Shirt.
The essential black skirt is one of the most flattering shapes you can possible choose – it’s the a-line or the fit and flare skirt. It will skim over your hips without adding any bulk or unrequired width. The most flattering length is knee length. You possibly can’t go wrong.
The classic wrap dress is not a style to ignore. It flatters all body shapes. Many women underestimate the wrap dress because it doesn’t look like much until you put it on. It just shapes and provides all women with a flattering silhouette. Choose one which has the basic colours like black and white so that it easily fits into our essential wardrobe. A little black cardi is item number 6. Wear it with jeans, tees, skirts and dresses. It’s perfect to just throw around your shoulders at a restaurant or layer under jackets. The Cashair Cashmere Cardigan.
The little black dress has saved me on many occasions. This simple a-line/fit and flare style, suits all figures. It can be dressed up or down and is one of those items which can be worn from work to play.
These classic straight leg jeans work so well in an essential wardrobe. They are not tight and they’re not baggy either, but fall in a straight line down the leg. This makes them perfect to wear with our relaxed striped top & white shirt. I’ve chosen a washed look which is not too light, but in between. So you can wear them even if you feel a bit self conscious of wearing lighter colours on the bottom half of your body.
You can’t go past the classic black pants. Once again I’ve found a style which has a straight fit but no side pockets and a mid rise. This way they should fit nicely on you if you’re an hourglass and also if you’re another body shape like the ruler, the apple, the pear and inverted triangle.
The classic trench is the last item on my list. This style doesn’t have any huge lapels or shoulder tabs which is why I chose it. The neutral colour makes it easy to mix and match with other items that I’ve chosen here. If you get a good quality trench coat it will last you years. I’ve a black one which is about 7 years old and it just does not go out of style.

Essential Wardrobe Items
What are some essential wardrobe items that everyone needs to have in their closet? I saw this question recently on a forum and decided to create a guide around it. Essential wardrobe items are those items of clothing that you would consider classic in style, so they won’t date.
A classic style is one that stands the test of time when it comes to fashion and clothing. It’s one that you can wear each year, and it just doesn’t date. The style is not overly fussy but simple and usually tailored. It doesn’t follow a particular trend, and because of that, you can wear that style each season. This classic style will even form part of your capsule wardrobe. I’ve put together a list of essential classic clothing items that you can use to mix and match easily and create different looks. In fact, each of these items should fit seamlessly into your current wardrobe
.
The Classic Trench Coat
It’s a change-of-season piece that can be worn casually or dressed up. It goes with dresses, pants, and jeans. To ensure your trench coat stands the test of time, aim to purchase one in a neutral colour—beige, navy blue, black, olive green—to ensure that it goes with everything. A smaller collar like the styles shown ensures that it doesn’t date as well.
The trench coat’s origins date back to World War 1. Although it has become a fashion statement since then, its origins were more practical than fashionable. These days, a classic trench is usually made from thicker, waterproof fabric, has side pockets, a belt to cinch in the waist, and a standard collar. The length is usually around knee length and even longer.
The Classic Wrap Dress
Look for a style with a V-neckline, as it’s flattering to all body shapes. Choose either an A-line skirt or a straight skirt. The sleeves should be simple, like a cap sleeve or a standard straight sleeve – the dress can even be sleeveless. The hem is straight, so there are no ruffles, which could pigeonhole the style into a season. I prefer buying in a plain, classic colour, but dots are a pattern that doesn’t seem to date. If you’re unsure, choose a plain colour.
Diane Von Furstenberg popularised the classic wrap dress in the 1970s, and it’s stayed in style ever since. From that time on there have been many different versions of the wrap dress, but today I’m going to give you some tips on choosing a wrap dress that will stand the test of time.
The Classic Blazer/Jacket
Then the style. I look for pieces that have tailoring, such as seams in the front and the back, to highlight my waist. A single or double button keeps the style classic. The example I’ve chosen is a tailored style that isn’t too tight or too baggy. It’s the perfect style to stand the test of time. The blazer has no real embellishments, and it will look good for day and night.
A tailored blazer or jacket is a must when creating a wardrobe that includes classic pieces. I usually always buy my classic pieces in a neutral colour like black, navy or beige. I decided this by looking at what my wardrobe already contained and which neutral colour would go with more items in my closet.
The Shift Dress
May feature seams down the front for a flattering silhouette or a more relaxed fit with a square cut. It’s a timeless style that is comfortable as well as stylish.
The shift dress has a more relaxed look. It shouldn’t be fitted and is typically shorter in length. Great for showing off those legs and hiding a belly.
The A-line Dress
This silhouette is known for its flattering effect on various body types, as it accentuates the waist and creates a balanced look. Available in short and long styles, it is the perfect style to buy if you’re ever in doubt regarding what to buy.
Probably one style that comes up every year is the a-line dress. Called that because the style looks like the letter A, Similar to the fit and flare dress it has more of a tailored style. It features a fitted bodice and a skirt that gradually widens towards the hem.
