The #1 question I get asked from women is “Why is sizing so inconsistent across brands?”[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][su_spacer size=”10″]
Unfortunately there is no easy answer & I wouldn’t be holding my breath waiting for a change to occur! But since I love shopping from all sorts of online stores, here’s a few things that I’ve discovered.

“]Depending on the type of fabric you can be different sizes in the same brand![/su_heading]
For instance, here I am shopping for a new pair of jeans. It was a brand that I’d purchased in the past, but I was keen to try their new denim fabric. I had with me in the change room, the new fabric & another fabric style within their range. So I tried on my usual Size 24 & I couldn’t get the button up! Really! Then I tried on the next size up, not a problem everything was where it was supposed to be.
Then, since I thought I was a Size 25 I chose to try on those in their new fabric next. Surprise, surprise – too big! I then had to drop down a size. Funny hey?! So depending on the fabric I could be a Size 24 or a Size 25 in jeans from the same brand!

“]Check to see whether the size chart provided is for that particular brand or a general fashion sizing chart![/su_heading]
This one is important. Fell in love with a top from a well known online store, so to ensure I got my size correct I took my measurements, brought up the sizing chart supplied on the page & compared the two.[su_spacer] Problem! I read the description of the top & the website had kindly inserted the size that the model was wearing a size small. She was way taller then me, so if I was to trust their sizing chart, I would be a size medium. Something was off. I then looked at another brand, the sizing chart was the same. Hmmm, that’s not right. In my experience, different brands have different sizing charts. So out of gut instinct I ordered a small & guess what, it fitted perfectly.
So, here are my tips for dealing with size inconsistency!

- Expect that you’re going to be different sizes from different brands. Don’t take it personally. You’ll feel better about yourself & it will make it easier to buy from different brands in the future.
- Make yourself familiar with the sizes from your favourite brands. If one brand’s cut is larger, size down, if another’s cut is smaller, size up.
- If buying online, refer to the size chart. Always measure yourself & compare to the size chart for that brand. If they don’t have a sizing chart for a particular brand, see if you can find one for that brand on another website
- Check the stores return policy. Most stores let you return for an exchange or refund for wrong sizing. If buying online, some companies will send out a free postage paid bag for returns.

My last tip is, just enjoy the shopping experience & love the outfit that you purchase. Don’t get obsessed about the size on the tag! Accept it & move on – you’ll be happier in the long run.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
